Val d'Orcia - Castello di Velona

Castello di Velona is a luxury hotel built as a medieval fortress in the 11th Century, located among the hills of Siena, in the heart of Val d’Orcia Natural Park, where the Tuscan tradition is defined by history and nature, by art and flavour. This is just like an open window on history’s landscape. Of course Montalcino and the Abbey of Sant'Antimo are just up the road here. Contact with the beauty of nature makes it a true oasis of peace and happiness.
Already miss this place. I'll have to come back here someday...

Val d'Orcia - Montalcino

Summer is already over, so it’s time to finish this Italian Holiday trilogy at last.
Our last vacation week began in this little medieval town in southern Tuscany in the valley of the Orcia river.
Val d’Orcia is characterised by gentle, carefully cultivated hills occasionally broken by gullies and by picturesque towns and villages. It is a landscape which has become familiar through its depiction in works of art from the Renaissance painting to the modern film and photograph. You know perhaps, that Ridley Scott shoots his millenium blockbuster Gladiator's paradise scenes just in the Orcia valley. Also unforgettable English Patient finds its background there. Whereas the Shakespearean classic Midsummer’s Night Dream with Michelle Pfeiffer, sets direct in this charming town, etc.
Montalcino with its medieval walls built in the 13th century, is also famous for its Brunello di Montalcino, counted among the most prestigious of Italian wines. Perfect supper place. Brunellos by the glass, mmmmm... lucky to be here!

Oans, Zwoa... Oktoberfest!

Bavaria - a state in the south of Germany. It's the place where you can find all the stereotypical German things that you won't find in the rest of the country: the traditional leathershorts, postcard-looking mountains, the Oktoberfest and even the silly thigh-slapping folk dance as seen in that one Chevy Chase movie.

In Bavaria there are five seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn and the Wiesn. The Wiesn is the best of those. Everybody is drunk and happy during the Wiesn, also known as, already mentioned, Oktoberfest. Aaaaa, Munich is located in Bavaria! xoxoxo
